Job Description

Salary: £35,000–£48,000 + bonus + benefits
Location: Barnsley
Type: Permanent

Overview:
A leading mechanical engineering company in Barnsley is seeking an Estimation Engineer to support costing, tendering and technical pricing for engineered systems, mechanical assemblies, pipework packages, machinery builds and industrial projects. This role offers full involvement from technical review to final quotation, with excellent progression into Senior Estimator or Commercial Engineer.

Responsibilities:
• Review mechanical specifications, drawings and P&IDs for engineered systems
• Prepare accurate cost estimates for mechanical assemblies, pump systems, pipework, skids and electro-mechanical builds
• Carry out material take-offs (valves, pumps, pipework, fittings, steelwork, components)
• Estimate machining, fabrication, welding, mechanical fitting and assembly labour
• Liaise with mechanical design engineers to clarify scope and technical requirements
• Source materials, equipment and subcontract services, negotiating competitive pricing
• Build complete cost models including labour, materials, subcontractors, tooling and overheads
• Produce tender submissions, RFQs, technical queries and commercial proposals
• Support project managers with costing variations and updated estimates
• Attend client sites for surveys, measurements and technical assessment when required

Requirements:
• Experience as an Estimator within mechanical engineering, machinery build, M&E, pipework, or industrial systems
• Strong ability to read engineering drawings, P&IDs and technical specifications
• Understanding of mechanical assemblies, pumps, valves, pipework and industrial equipment
• Confident preparing detailed cost breakdowns and technical proposals
• Strong communication skills with both engineers and clients
• Proficient with Excel and costing tools
• Excellent attention to detail and organised working approach
